Today was the last day of JWOC 2006. Relay took part in the park of Druskininkai town. Exhausting heat, fast courses and good forking made concurrence fierce and competitions even more interesting for spectators.

The winner of women relays was Russia  (Ekaterina Terekhova, Tatyana Kozlova, Mariya Shilova) who was 51 seconds ahead of silver medalist Swedish trio (Linnea Lindstrom, Anna Persson, Eva Svensson). Finland (Sofia Haajanen, Saila Kinni, Heini Wennman) took bronze just 11 seconds after second place. The biggest disappointment of the day was experienced by Norwegian girls whose first leg runner this year JWOC sprint champion Ingunn Weltzien  finished nearly 3 minutes ahead the rest of the teams  but unfortunately was disqualified. For Lithuanian first team which would finish on the last podium position was the same disaster in the last leg.

In the men relay the gold medals surprisingly claimed Estonian team (Jarveoja Mihkel, Sild Timo, Puusepp Markus). 1 min and 39 seconds behind the winners was Sweden (Fredrik Johansson, John Fredriksson, Mikael Kristensson). Norwegians (Anders Skarholt, Erik Sagvolden, Olav Lundanes ) missed silver medals just by 19 seconds. Lithuanian men reached their best ever result in relays and finished in 5th position.

Next year JWOC will be held in Dubbo, Australia on 7-13th of July.

Today middle distance final was held in JWOC 2006. Courses were quite fast, but technically difficult. The heat and the finish area  was the same as yesterday.

In women category after 3,8 km with 14 controls the winner was last year junior Norwegian Nilsen Betty Ann Bjerkreim with the time 26:19. Early lead had Finnish Ulrika Uotila who finaly took silver just 19 seconds behind. The bronze medalist was 16 years old Danish Signe Klinting with the time 26:57.  Last year middle distance winner Swedish Anna Persson was just out of top three and finished in fourth position just 55 seconds behind the winner. The only one not Northern European girl in top ten was Lithuanian Kristina Rybakovaite who was in eight place.

In men category after 4,7 km with 16 controls finish times were extremely tight. Both Danish Soren Bobach and Czech Jan Benes scored gold showing the same best time 25:09. Bronze went to long distance medalist Norwegian Olav Lundanes who was just 5 seconds behind the leaders. 4th place took Lithuanian Jonas Vytautas Gvildys who missed gold by 12 seconds. It was the best personal and the best result for Lithuanian team in this JWOC.
